Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide exists primarily as the oxidized form NAD+ and the reduced form NADH. This redox pair participates in electron-transfer reactions throughout cellular metabolism. NAD+ acts as an electron acceptor in oxidation-reduction reactions and is converted to NADH during that process.
